CORE VALUE

TASTE & CULINARY DIVERSITY

In Europe, flavors have evolved from unique soils, climates, and diverse culinary cultures. They share a common heritage yet possess distinct charms. With such vast diversity comes the true joy of choice.

AUTHENTICITY ROOTED IN TRADITION

Only recipes and methods that have been passed down through generations—constantly chosen and refined through time and technological advancement—have survived to this day.

QUALITY

The EU promotes diverse policies to create a food system in harmony with the environment. Strategies like ‘Farm to Fork’ focus on animal welfare, reducing food waste and pesticide use, and resource efficiency, enhancing the overall sustainability of European food and beverages.

To preserve heritage and high standards, the EU maintains rigorous certification systems for agri-food products. These labels guarantee authenticity, ensuring that consumers can trust the quality and origin of every product they choose.

CERTIFICATION SYSTEMS

PROTECTED DESIGNATION OF ORIGIN (PDO)

PDO status is reserved for food and drink products that are most closely tied to their region of origin. To qualify, every step of the production, processing, and preparation must take place in the designated area, ensuring the product’s qualities are deeply connected to its geographic environment.

PROTECTED GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATION (PGI)

PGI highlights the connection between a product and its specific region, where a particular quality, reputation, or characteristic is essentially linked to that origin. For PGI-labeled products, at least one stage of production, processing, or preparation must occur within the region.

TRADITIONAL SPECIALITY GUARANTEED (TSG)

TSG status recognizes products that are distinguished by their traditional production methods or composition, rather than their geographic origin. To qualify, a product must have a traditional character, either in the way it is made or in its ingredients, but it does not need to come from a specific region. Registering a product as TSG protects its name against imitation and misuse, ensuring authenticity for consumers.

EU ORGANIC LOGO

The EU Organic logo is a mark for products that comply with strict rules on organic farming, production, and handling. Only products with at least 95% organic ingredients and that meet further stringent requirements for the remaining 5% may carry this label. The logo assures consumers that the product has been certified by an authorized body and meets the EU’s high standards for organic food.
